Climbing Mt. Shasta

Two weeks ago (the second weekend in May 2008) I climbed Mt. Shasta with Jon Chiappa. We went up there with Mikael, Nick, Crystal, Keith, and Mark. I taught a 1 day mountaineering class, including self-arrest, roped team arrest, and crevasse rescue. Mark, Mikael, Nick and Crystal decided to try a 1-day ascent, starting at 3 AM from Bunny Flat. Mark and Mikael summited, while Crystal got altitude sickness and went back to the car with Nick. Keith, Jon and I hiked up to Lake Helen on Sunday, meeting Mark and Mikael on their way down. After a few hours of "sleep" Jon and I headed up for the summit. I was pretty tired towards the top, and they winds were insane, but we made it, and got down without any problems, meting Keith at the car.

Skiing Lassen

I went on a 3 day skiing trip over the first weekend in May with JR, Foggy, and Roger. We summited the Saturday, and had an awesome ski down. We also underestimated the amount of fuel needed to melt snow, and ended up going to town to get dinner instead of cooking. I learned that I won't be doing anymore backcountry skiing with my alpine boots again... too uncomfortable...
